ROTHERS Design/Build is an innovative architecture and general contracting firm with expertise in traditional residential construction techniques as well as in numerous sustainable design and alternative construction methods.
Our staff of nine includes three architects who have a combined fifty years of experience in residential, commercial and civic architecture, urban planning, and construction. Among our other dedicated employees, five of whom have been with the company for over five years, are project supervisors, carpenters, and tile setters. For work not performed by our own craftsmen, we rely on numerous quality-minded sub-contractors with whom we have cultivated relationships over the course of our company’s fifteen year history.
ROTHERS Design/Build projects vary in size from small kitchen remodels to large multi-million dollar homes and in complexity from a simple wood-framed room addition to a veterinary hospital built with straw-bale walls. We have extensive experience with common residential construction practices as well as a wide range of alternative methods and materials including: heavy timber framing, steel framing and connections, masonry construction, specialized concrete construction, straw-bale construction, structural insulated panels and reclaimed and recycled materials. Sustainable technologies incorporated into our projects include: photovoltaic solar panels, hydronic solar heating, passive solar heating, geo-thermal heating and cooling, wind turbines, and rainwater collection systems.
We are headquartered in a turn-of-the-century fire station in Kansas City, Kansas. In addition to our offices, the historic building houses our wood shop, where we build cabinetry and specialty components for our projects. The shop space also functions as a place to train employees, construct mock-ups and samples, and experiment with new materials and methods of construction.
