A recently purchased Mission Hills home was in need of major remodeling prior to the new homeowners’ arrival. Although the existing kitchen contained a vaulted ceiling, a large linear skylight, and wood beams, its location was too removed from the adjacent living spaces and its décor did not suit the new homeowners’ taste. ROTHERS Design/Build relocated the kitchen, designed and built new modern cabinetry, and topped them with marble countertops. The sleek new cabinets, stained to mimic wenge wood, are adorned with stainless steel hardware and wrap the perimeter of the new kitchen. A large white island with a black granite countertop contrasts with the stained wood cabinetry and anchors the center of the space. A new commercial grade range with stainless steel hood and chimney is placed against a black stacked granite wall, providing a dramatic focal point. The existing wood ceiling beams were clad in drywall and painted white to compliment the new modern aesthetic. On the upper floor, the master bath was completely renovated to include a dramatic “floating” vanity, an enlarged spa-inspired shower, a modern free-standing tub, and a custom built-in wood dresser. |
